Al Gregson began to actively pursue a career in the fire service in 1982. He enrolled in the Allan Hancock Fire Academy and continued with their Fire Science program obtaining an AS Degree. His first exposure was when he volunteered with the Santa Barbara City Fire Department as Blue Team Volunteer. There he assisted with public education programs and fire safety demonstrations. In 1984, Al was hire by the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District as a public service reserve firefighter. In December of 1985, Montecito Fire Protection District hired Al as a full time firefighter. He immediately became involved with fire prevention projects including public education, fire investigations, and developing target hazard preplans. He promoted to engineer in 1988 and then to the rank of captain in 1991. He held that position for nineteen years until his recent promotion to Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal.
Al was instrumental in the design and development of the computerized mapping program and continues to oversee the Districts Mapping Cadre. He has maintained progressive growth throughout his career obtaining Investigation, Company Officer, and Chief Officer Certifications. Operationally, Al is a Strike Team Leader and has a number of NWCD training qualifications. He also has an AA degree in Economics from SBCC and is a California State licensed contractor
Al and his family currently reside on the south coast. He is married and has four children. His spare time is generally involved with his family and kids activities. He enjoys coaching their sports teams, and when he can find extra time, he'll be fishing or working on his golf swing.
