The Position: (overview)
The Montecito Fire Protection District is recruiting for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Under general supervision of an engine company captain responds to fire calls, medical calls and other emergencies. Operates and maintains fire apparatus and other district equipment. Serve as acting engineer, as required. Participate in fire prevention programs and public education. Responds to medical emergencies and follows Santa Barbara County protocols. Perform other duties as needed. 56 hour safety employees work 8 shifts of 24 hours each within a 24 day cycle (a total of 192 hrs). This is an average workweek of 56 hours.
Minimum qualifications:
Possession of valid California Driver's License. California Class B Drivers License shall be attained within the first 6 months of appointment. Must possess ACLS, PALS, and CPR certifications. Successful completion of a California Firefighter 1 Academy or have successfully completed a minimum of twelve (12) months service as a paid or reserve firefighter with a government agency. Must be a California certified paramedic with a minimum of six (6) months experience, practicing as a paramedic, by the time of appointment. Must possess Santa Barbara County Paramedic accreditation within one month of appointment.

Included with your application should be a copy of your resume and required licenses and certificates. Proof of successful completion of CPAT (Candidate Physical Agility Test) also needs to be included. If you took the CPAT within the 12 months previous to December 17, 2009 and have proof that you passed it, you will not need to retake it. If your CPAT certificate is dated before December 17th, 2008 you should plan to attend the CPAT orientation at the Oxnard College fire academy December 4, 2009 or January 8th, 2010 and the actual test on January 9th, 2010.
